False intimacy: sharing a bed across a sea

Is peace kept by avoiding conflict the same as closeness? A real bond often begins at the moment a crack is allowed to show. You may not row. Weekends are booked. From outside you look like a model pair. Only you know the vacuum. Weather and dinner are safe; want and fear are walked around. That is false intimacy.
It is common in high-functioning, high-defence people. The stable adult who works well in an office brings the same survival rule into the bedroom. Surface peace is bought by cutting off a real exchange. Without friction there is also no spark. Without a crack, light does not come in.
Breaking the glass takes a risk. The next time you feel hurt or small, try a sentence without a charge: I feel a little alone right now. That thin disclosure is often the only way through a stiff structure and back to a live bond.
